Why Taiwan

"If you buy a new car with all the bells and whistles in the store and finds that it also drives well, you perceive it as good luck? No, of course! He should go well. When you get a complex stereo system, handmade watches or a beautiful car , you realize that this item is made in accordance with certain laws of mechanics, physics and electricity, and the fact that the purchased item works well is not a matter of luck ”... (Brian Tracy).

History and cause of the issue

Working in a production company since the beginning of the 2000s, in the mid-2000s, actively developing and modernizing the production park of equipment of two factories, we were faced with the fact that complex production lines and equipment bought from leading European manufacturers require significant investments (and therefore And attracting a borrowed credit resource) In this case, the performance indicators (such as the payback period of equipment) became not very interesting for investors. High depreciation had to be laid in the cost of production, which also caused “irritation” of sellers and reduced sales volumes ...
In other words, work on technical investments tightly encountered the issue of optimization according to the price criterion - quality - time of receipt and use of the solution.

Some points from the experience of working with Taiwanese suppliers

In the mid-2000s, it was necessary to choose a very cunning machine for the production of mass products from steel wire with high accuracy. The well -known German manufacturer of such equipment folded a price similar to the verdict ... The Italian manufacturer was unable to guarantee the opportunity to make some of the details requested according to the technical assignment ... The continuation of the searches led to the Asians again. But not to China. The company from Taiwan not only offered an acceptable value within the budget and the delivery time 2 times shorter than European, for several days I received a video of the production of some of my details from the TK sent ... Remote negotiations gave certain chances of success, but in the view of the absence Experience in working with this country and, gained earlier (since the mid-90s), very difficult and not always successful experience with continental China, an introductory trip was definitely necessary.

So, by the will of chance, we got to Taiwan in 2007 for the first time.

Any production company, especially producing various equipment, is trying to optimize its production logistics from the point of view of purchased and produced independently (or under their control) products, components and components. All attempts to build a production cycle using such a production “subcontract” on the territory of the CIS from the beginning of the 2000s to the present, unfortunately, were unsuccessful. And the point is not that it was impossible to make something for their needs. It was possible to make a lot. But there were a lot of "but" ...
1. As a rule, each such technical order has an exclusive shade - with the corresponding “exclusive” production time;
2. Almost always the cost of such an order is also “exclusive”, but the paradox is that it is almost always higher than the alternative imported (it is understandable - the absence or limitations of modern equipment, equipment, technological skills and specialists laid the corresponding component in your economy);
3. High "corruption economic component" in the cost of products in the CIS.

4. At some stage, you almost manage to order something with a given quality at the desired price. But here the most interesting will begin- either there will be no stability of the achieved quality (permanent force majeure from your suppliers), or in the future you will simply begin to “milk” at the cost ...
Prolonged communication and cooperation with Taiwanese companies showed the following features characteristic of Taiwan:

The quality of products produced in small and large companies in Taiwan does not differ significantly, the issue of specialization plays a role to a greater extent. But the Taiwan, unlike the Chinese, will not cling to you-but simply tells that some question is not in his competence (field of activity) and can even kindly inform you who can help you.
Several times I was embarrassed, falling into a very small company that produces a fairly serious equipment. So one of the companies producing the processing mechanical centers for the CNC metal consists of 5 people (including the director-president and the cleaning lady). At the same time, the company has been working since the end of the eighties and quite good in my understanding. To my question, how the business has developed recently, the director noticed that, as always, stable. To the request a little to specify - he politely handed the customer magazine. It turned out that over the past year his company sold 374 CNC machines (more than 1 per day!), The cost of each varies from tens to hundreds of thousands of USD. Among the customers were companies from Switzerland, Slovakia, Germany, Finland, USA, Japan, Australia, China, etc. (by the way, I was the first buyer from the CIS, which I do not regret). How can a company of 5 people collect and sell so much?! The answer lies in “Japanese” logistics, which consists in the fact that it is assembly production, which has developed a machine with its characteristics and design, and then, at the right time (no earlier and no later!) Receives all the necessary components (given quality) for it, carrying out the necessary assembly and tuning.

In conclusion, It is worth noting that after the end of the assembly, this small company transfers its equipment to a special certified laboratory, which within 5 days produces laser measurements and the final refinement of high-speed spindles (to eliminate the bends and ensure the necessary accuracy), each machine is equipped with an appropriate certificate.
There are a large number of typical products in Taiwan and almost all of them are export-oriented, there are many production zones (even entire cities-for example, in the field of electronics and engineering). You have the opportunity to choose a supplier among professionals who can have a very strong specialization. The placement of enterprises in these production parks is stimulated by the government and the enterprises created there for 5 years are exempted from taxes.

Features of the national character of the Taiwanese:

* Traditionally high labor culture, which is distinguished by zeal, tireless hard work, the ability, having received an order, calmly, persistently and conscientiously work, which is called "from a call to a call." In Taiwan, everyone is literally obsessed with work, work in the full sense of the word for wear;
* energetic enterprise. Taiwanese will rather no longer, refuse to relax, but will save and invest in his business. Priority there is always an entrepreneurial benefit;
* Inborn collectivism, organization. For millennia, people in East Asia, in order to survive, were forced to work in groups. Taiwan does not want and cannot be alone, from there mutual assistance goes, as the basis of their relationship;
* Patience, willingness to demolish any hardships and implicitly comply with the orders of the elders, superiors, states, in general, forces that ensure stability and order in the country. Some even talk about their certain roboticism, lack of initiative, initiative;
* Smile, friendliness. Such a feeling is formed in Taiwan that everything is happy everywhere: in a bank, dry cleaning, hairdresser, clinic. Some unreal readiness to help, support, provide a service. The level of friendliness simply goes off scale, at the first cursory acquaintance to call to his home for dinner, spend the other end of the city, almost a national feature of character;
* Tolerance. In Taiwan, it is inconceivable to get a direct refusal, there is no word “no”. That is, of course, it is, but perceived as an insult, they are driven by fear of offending;
* a kind of system of business relations. Personal contacts are extremely important in Taiwan. At first, good, friendly relations are established, and then business negotiations begin;
* are superstitious. Signs, fortune -telling, amulets apply to literally everything: purchases of goods, weddings, opening a business, selling an apartment, etc.;
* honest. As a rule, no one will deceive there and a penny, on the contrary, sometimes gets the impression that prices are even underestimated;
* do not overstate prices.
